About This Island Guide
Sixteen tours run between Cairns and Fitzroy Island, and the differences are not obvious at a glance (see How Long To Spend On Fitzroy Island). A ferry-only ticket from A$105 and a guided snorkel safari from A$168 can share a departure point yet deliver very different days. This guide lays each option out with its operator, hours, inclusions and rating, so the trade-offs between a bare crossing, a half-day escape and a two-day reef combo are visible before money changes hands.
Who This Guide Helps
Written for travellers who have chosen the island but not the way to see it. Families weighing a glass-bottom boat against a guided snorkel safari, day-trippers deciding between a half-day morning adventure and a full 10-hour crossing, and visitors pairing Fitzroy with Green Island or the outer reef will each find their angle in the comparisons here.
Only part of a day free in Cairns? The half-day round-ups cover the morning adventure and the afternoon escape, both with the return ferry included. Readers with a full day get the same treatment across ferry-and-lunch packages, the 11am-to-5pm snorkel option, and two-day combos taking in Moore Reef or the wider Great Barrier Reef (see Swimming The Reef). Where a tour runs long or suits only confident swimmers, that is said plainly.
Reading The Listings
| What gets a tour onto this site | Nothing is sold on this site. Each ferry and tour connects to its live booking page, and the purchase runs between you and the booking platform behind it. We do not operate the boats, take payments or handle changes, so anything about a reservation, a refund or a departure slot goes to the support team listed on that page. |
|---|---|
| Prices, ratings and review counts | No button here holds a seat on a boat. Every tour carries a short summary built for side-by-side comparison, and a booking only exists once you finish the purchase on the live booking page yourself. Fares shift with season and demand, so every figure shown is a published from-price rather than a locked quote. Optional extras, the final total and your departure details are settled at checkout. |
| Duration, meeting points and inclusions | The weather call is never ours. Wind around the island can push an operator to change a route, swap vessels or cancel a sailing, and a rough crossing changes how a glass-bottom boat or snorkel session feels. No page here can promise calm water over the coral or turtles near the jetty. Refunds and rescheduling are handled by the operator and the booking platform. |
| Wildlife and reef claims | We sell no tickets, drive no vessels and set no timetables, so rebooking, refunds and updates from an operator sit outside what we can do. Departure details and prices can shift at any hour. The operators' booking pages settle what a tour includes and costs on the day; this site's part ends at comparison and plain description. |
How Booking Works
What We Leave Out
Omissions
Certain logistics are left off on purpose. Check-in cut-offs at the Cairns terminal, pick-up windows and packing lists for a day on the water all shift often enough that a copied version here would mislead, so the live booking page for each tour is the authority. Weather decisions and seasonal timetable changes belong to the operators whose ferries leave Cairns each morning.
Some things this site refuses to promise. It will not forecast water clarity on your dates, guarantee turtle sightings at Nudey Beach, or claim calm conditions for the glass-bottom boat on any given morning. Those depend on weather, season and luck, and no honest page can lock them in ahead of time. What is published instead is what each listing states plainly: who operates the tour, how long it runs, what is included, and the rating and review count travellers have already left. The rest belongs to the day itself.
